PARISH SERVICE ACTIVITIES

 

Liturgy Committee

Its mission is to enhance our worship on holydays and for the liturgical seasons. Time is spent in planning liturgical celebrations and in creating the environment in the church for these celebrations. This committee meets monthly.

 

Finance Committee

This committee meets monthly. Members are appointed by the Pastor. The committee reviews the financial status of the parish, prepares the budget and makes sound fiscal decisions.

 

Catholic Youth Program

The Youth Group meets on Sunday evenings in the parish hall or the parish sacristy area, between the hours of 7:00pm and 9:00pm. It is open to all high school members of the parish. Some of the activities are: watching and discussing videos, listening to various speakers, prayer experiences, and social activities. They meet with other CYO groups for supporting events such as ski trips and more. The CYO assists with other activities conducted by the parish, as the Giving Tree, visits to nursing homes, and assisting at a soup kitchen.

 

Altar Servers

This ministry is open to both male and female members of the parish. Ordinarily the young servers begin after grade four and continue through high school years. There is a required training period during which the person prepares to serve at Mass and other liturgical functions.

 

Funeral Team

These men serve funeral Masses that are celebrated for the deceased members of our parish. There are four teams at present and each gentleman is trained for the serving at funeral rites.

 

Parish Adult Choir

A group of women and men who come together to perform sacred choral music of varying styles and periods. They usually provide music for the 10:00am Mass celebrations on Sundays and special occasions. Rehearsals are held in the Church on Thursday evenings form September to June at 7:30pm. The choirs are under the direction of Mrs. Theel, Parish Music Director, and assisted by the organist, Mr. Kevin Daly.

 

Youth Choir

St. Agnes Music Ministry includes a choir of children form the parish community. Children from grades 2 through 5 are invited to participate in this ministry. The groups meets on Thursdays at 3:30pm and sings at Sunday Liturgies and other occasions.

 

Ministers of the Eucharist

These ministers assist with the distribution of Communion at Sunday and daily Masses. They also bring Communion to seniors, homebound parishioners, and residents of the Clark Nursing Home. These ministers receive special instructions and preparation and are mandated by the Archbishop for this role. Anyone who is a registered member of the parish, confirmed and is 18 years of age or older, and in a recognized marriage union in the Church may request in writing to the pastor to be a minister.

 

Lectors

The task of the lector is to make God's presence in His Word a very inspiring and real experience at our liturgies. The men and women involved in this ministry are trained readers familiar with the day's Scripture and anxious to share it with their fellow Christians. Both young and old are invited to join this Ministry. One should be a good reader, and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.

 

Ushers - Ministers of Hospitality

These ministers greet parishioners as they enter the church, introduce stranger and seat people. They select parishioners to bring the offertory gifts to the altar. They collect the weekly offerings, facilitate the communion procession and distribute the weekly bulletin.

 

Adult Education

A variety of educational programs are offered during the year - fall, Advent, Lent and Spring. These programs allow parishioners the opportunity for continued education in matters of faith, morals, devotion and Church history.
