Confirmation Preparation

7th and 8th year students are considered part of our sacrament preparation program.

All students are required to:

All students are required to:

Complete all components of their enrolled program
Attend Mass a minimum of 14 times through the CFD year from September 12-13 to April 18th and complete an individual Mass Intention card for each Mass attended.
In addition, our 8th grade students are required to:
- attend a special Mass dedicated to our Confirmation candidates
- attend a Retreat Day (date to be released)
- participate in Service Day
- submit all components of a Confirmation packet
- attend a Confirmation rehearsal with his/her sponsor

First Eucharist/Communion

The Sacrament of Communion is a sacred milestone in a Catholic's life. At St. Agnes, sacramental preparation is a two-year process, in accordance with the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Newark.

If your child has completed Year 1 of a religious education program—either at St. Agnes or another parish—they are eligible to continue their Catholic faith formation in Year 2 and prepare to receive their First Holy Eucharist.

Program Requirements:

Mass Attendance:
Students in both Year 1 and Year 2 are required to attend 14 Masses between September 12/13th and April 17/18th. A Mass Intention Card must be completed for each Mass attended.
Year 2 Sacrament Class:
In addition to the standard CFD requirements, Year 2 students must attend an in-person Sacrament class held on Mondays beginning in November. (Please see the program calendar for specific start and end dates.)
Sacraments:
Students will receive First Reconciliation in January/February and First Holy Communion in the spring (date to be released)

Important Notes:

Completion of Year 1 is required prior to entering the Communion preparation year.
If Year 1 was completed at another parish, documentation must be provided.
Online-only programs are not accepted for sacramental preparation.
